Julie Perkins outlines why passion has to become purpose to create long-lasting success and growth.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For most questions in the modern world, an answer can be found on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. From \u2018why is the sky blue?\u2019 (blue light is more easily scattered) to \u2018are chocolate bars getting smaller?\u2019 (regrettably,\u00a0 yes),\u00a0 the answers are out there in fairly simple form. Ask what makes a great entrepreneur, however, and you will find answers aplenty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A quick internet surf reveals that most entrepreneurs are considered visionaries, able to spot gaps in the market that no one else has seen, they are results driven, adaptable and open to feedback, they learn fast, are decisive, must be a compelling storyteller and have just the right balance of humility and confidence knowing both their strengths and weaknesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a new company founder or young visionary, that\u2019s quite a list to take on board. Starting out you have no idea yet who you are or how you can succeed. It\u2019s a hard place to begin.\u00a0 However, begin you must, but how? Some would say just by getting on with it \u2013 after all according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/stephaniedenning\/2017\/12\/19\/what-makes-a-successful-entrepreneur-five-lessons-from-vcs-and-entrepreneurs\/?sh=2cf67cd73a62\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forbes.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> successful entrepreneurs \u2018don\u2019t noodle, they do\u2019 \u2013 however, ask most new entrepreneurs and they will answer by having passion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3655 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wyseminds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/shutterstock_2075838004-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"379\" height=\"249\" \/>There\u2019s no doubt of course that passion is a vital component, but old hands like me also know that to achieve lasting success there\u2019s a little more to it than that, so to the list above, let\u2019s add the ability to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wyseminds.com\/wtf-is-purpose-led\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">turn passion into purpose<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I first start work with an entrepreneur and ask them to tell me about their products and service, I am not after a business pitch per se because no amount of \u2018I believe the world needs my product\u2019 is going to cut ice with investors, but I do agree with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steve_Jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve Jobs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that \u2018the most important person in the world is the storyteller. [They] set the vision, values and agenda of an entire generation that is to come\u2019.\u00a0 It is how you tell that story and translate that personal passionate essence into <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wyseminds.com\/time-to-talk-talent-and-purpose-1\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">organisational purpose<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that matters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passion is, of course, a great starting point, even if it is a bit frustrated and stuck, believing in the future but not sure how to get there. All my life I was told that I had passion and with no other feedback, I took it as a compliment. But passion \u2013 like all superpowers \u2013 needs to be tamed. It&#8217;s personal and often emotional and it\u2019s easy to get carried away; it\u2019s certainly the beginning of beliefs and a determination to make things happen \u2013 no one chooses to do it because they\u2019re a bit bored \u2013 but passion can be difficult to let go of and for others to understand.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wyseminds.com\/wtf-is-purpose-led\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Purpose<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> means that everyone from investors, to colleagues and consumers will understand who you are and what you are trying to achieve. Knowing your core reason for being leads to trust and sustainability. A clear purpose leads to clarity, direction and inevitably to customers, sales and growth.
