Your team is an ecosystem and thinking of how to connect and align them to your purpose, vision and core message will make it far easier to achieve success.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This applies to your external team (business partners, distributors, suppliers, investors and customers) and your internal team (employees, trainees or volunteers).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/KISS_principle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>KISS<\/b><\/a> <b>and keep it simple (stupid)\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biography.com\/business-leaders\/steve-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve Jobs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, founder of Apple, knew, it\u2019s hard work to achieve simplicity. It\u2019s often the first thing to be put to one side while your thinking is focused on juggling to-do lists instead of simplifying ways of working so your company is better able to meet the demands that growth brings like new products, services, regions and business areas. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3740 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wyseminds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Copy-of-19-230x300.png\" alt=\"Founder's story cartoon Wyseminds\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep It Simple Stupid, or KISS as it\u2019s commonly known, is a design principle that\u2019s been used for decades to ensure that wherever possible, systems and processes should try to incorporate simplicity at every step for the greatest chance of human acceptance and interaction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same goes for business.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If simplicity is not a part of yours, the opposite will move in \u2013 complexity. And that\u2019s when purpose gets hidden and your people become exhausted, confused and demotivated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>When purpose is obscured<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If simplicity unites teams and makes it easier for people in every part of your business to get \u2013 and stay \u2013 involved, complexity does the opposite.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4340 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wyseminds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Copy-of-Copy-of-22-248x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"300\" \/>It obscures purpose which makes organisations rudderless. Combine this with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">old processes, clunky systems, too many objectives and blurred reporting lines and you can see how quickly complexity and hidden purpose can derail progress.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Purpose helps align individual employees and acts as a tool for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wyseminds.com\/get-out-of-your-own-way-on-the-path-to-business-success\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">assessing opportunities and risks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while keeping your team ecosystem clutter-free. That way, not only will your internal team find it easier and less time-consuming to get work done, but there will be a lower chance that your external team will lose faith in your company\u2019s ability to deliver.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what do we mean by simplicity? Put simply (of course), it\u2019s the act of making things clear and understood. It doesn\u2019t mean dumbing down \u2013 it means clarity of language and communication built around your core purpose.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4350 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wyseminds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Copy-of-Copy-of-20-286x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"300\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When time, energy and resources are spent on activities that do not create value and instead start to damage performance, you know complexity is at play.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gsbblogs.uct.ac.za\/walterbaets\/files\/2009\/09\/McKinsey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studies<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">show that companies with low levels of complexity, where it\u2019s \u201ceasy to get things done\u201d, have the highest returns.
